The Troodos Ophiolite Complex presents an rare opportunity to study the make up of oceanic crust. It was formed at around 90Ma when a section of the Tethys Ocean floor was later thrust up onto the surface of the Earth. Now tectonically inverted, its base stands at a level of over 2000m above sea level and the complex displays the characteristic progression through pillows basalts, dyke swarms, plutonic intrusives and layered ultramafic cumulates.
